Orenoajito is a bar serving sashimi and skewers in Suseong-gu, Daegu, a 16-minute walk from Exit 4 of Sincheon Station. This review is based on photos from my earlier visit. I recommend the Assorted Sashimi for its wide variety of seafood: on that visit, the thick slices tasted fresh, and the range of seafood was the strongest part of the meal.

What stood out about the sashimi and skewers?

I went to Orenoajito looking for the mixed sashimi platters I had enjoyed while living in Incheon and Seoul. The Assorted Sashimi gave me plenty of different pieces to try, while the King Oyster Mushroom Skewers and Chicken Skewers added cooked dishes alongside the seafood.

What came with the Assorted Sashimi?

My Assorted Sashimi at Orenoajito included more than 15 kinds of seafood, with tuna, flatfish, steamed abalone, oysters, and salmon among them. I liked having that much variety on one plate, and the thick cuts made the serving feel generous.
The Assorted Sashimi at Orenoajito also came with sea urchin in a separate small dish, plus wasabi and edamame. Red tuna, orange salmon, and pale slices of fish filled the platter alongside the large oysters and abalone.

How were the oyster and flatfish fin?

The raw oyster in Orenoajito’s Assorted Sashimi arrived on the half shell, with plump flesh that nearly filled the shell. After moving a broad piece of flatfish fin to my side plate, I lifted it with my chopsticks and noticed both its thickness and the clear stripes of fat running through the flesh.
What were the grilled skewers like?

My King Oyster Mushroom Skewers at Orenoajito came in large grilled chunks sprinkled with sesame seeds. The Chicken Skewers arrived on a separate plate, with browned patches across the surface; kimchi and pickled ginger accompanied the dishes.
I would suggest the King Oyster Mushroom Skewers and Chicken Skewers to someone who does not eat raw fish. I ate both skewer dishes during my visit.
What was the setting like?
The tiled roof and wooden exterior caught my attention before I entered Orenoajito. An owl illustration decorated the wooden sign above the entrance, and I sat at the bar facing handwritten wooden menu boards, which gave the setting a distinctly Japanese feel.
What did I drink with the sashimi?
I had soju and a glass of draft beer with the Assorted Sashimi at Orenoajito, and I ordered lemon separately. The drinks menu I saw also listed lemon, yuzu, lime, and grapefruit highballs, along with Lemon Sour, Yuzu Sake, and Hwayo.
