Besides the dishes I ordered, the menu also lists rabokki (라볶이), tteokbokki cooked with ramen noodles, which is worth keeping in mind if you want a noodle-heavy plate.

At Yogi & Gimbap Bonjeom I ordered three dishes: the Tuna gimbap (4,000 won), the Special tteokbokki (8,000 won) and a cheese tonkatsu (prices as of my visit). I could not find the cheese tonkatsu price on the menu board, so I have left it out. With the three plates on one table, each dish looked clearly different in shape and color.

Is the cheese tonkatsu worth it?

The cheese tonkatsu came with a thick layer of tonkatsu sauce spread across the cutlet, with white rice, cabbage salad and danmuji (pickled radish) on the side. Once the cheese tonkatsu was cut, white cheese showed between the slices under the glossy sauce, and the portion was generous enough to make a filling meal.

If you like fried dishes, the cheese tonkatsu is a reasonable pick at Yogi & Gimbap Bonjeom alongside the snack-food staples.

Special tteokbokki with flat dumplings and ramen

The Special tteokbokki (8,000 won) comes with napjak mandu (납작만두), thin flat dumplings, and ramen noodles included by default. Several flat dumplings were layered over the red tteokbokki, so the Special tteokbokki looked more generous than I expected, and the ramen noodles came up from the pan well coated in sauce.

I scooped some of the Special tteokbokki sauce into a bowl with ramen noodles and flat dumplings and ate them together. The wide dumpling skins and thin noodles in one bite are the main reason to choose the Special tteokbokki over the plain version.

Tuna gimbap for a quick meal

The Tuna gimbap (4,000 won) arrived sliced into bite-size rounds with plenty of sesame seeds on top. Each slice of Tuna gimbap showed pickled radish, carrot and other vegetables packed neatly in the cross-section, and with a spoon and chopsticks set out it was easy to eat one piece at a time. The Tuna gimbap suits a simple solo meal.

Is Yogi & Gimbap Bonjeom good for tteokbokki and gimbap in Daegu?

Looking at the menu prices, ordering several dishes to share felt reasonable. The cheese tonkatsu with its long cheese pull and the Special tteokbokki topped with flat dumplings were the two plates that stayed with me, and I would recommend Yogi & Gimbap Bonjeom to anyone in Nam-gu who wants familiar bunsik without a trip across Daegu.
